Indeed, the filing date might be the more interesting one.

Re keeping patents secret – I don’t think you can, it’s adverse to the whole idea of a patent in the first place — patents are the public recognition that you have come up with whatever is in the patent – and protects this in the marketplace.

Hey Johnston,

The date of release was today (May 29) and the date of submission was Nov 7, 2006. Apple seems to have some say in the USPTO release dates, they differ quite a bit and pat apps that give to much away on products tend to appear after their release. I’ll put the dates in from now on- it is interesting to look for patterns

Another interesting patent, just one question though when was the patent (and others) published to the public? I assume it was in the past few days, I’d like to see the date on future patents so I can work out if there’s some sort of pattern – as well as dates filed. For example can Apple ask for some patents to be confidential until closer to a potential product launch, like they can ask the FCC to keep some info private for a certain amount of time.
